Eight Bowls with Wood Base

Stoneware and wood

2"H x 6"diameter (each bowl), 3-1/4"h x 58"W x 7"D (base)

Piece can be hung on a wall or set on a pedestal. The 8 bowls were removed from the kiln at peak temperature and set on the wood block so that it started to burn.  The bowls are 'installed' on the wood in the location were the charring exists.

Josh Copus has developed a personally significant approach to making pottery. He embraces the values and importance of using local materials through his studies of folk potteries throughout the world, focusing on the traditions of Korea, Japan, England and North Carolina.

"My work with ceramics begins with the clay. By using materials dug from the river bottoms and mountainsides of Western North Carolina, my work gains a connection to place and establishes the materials as a valuable source of influence. I dig my own clay from a tobacco field alongside Turkey Creek and everything I make contains an element of my response to that experience. Most importantly, I find a great amount of excitement in digging my own clay and my hope is that the enthusiasm I have for my materials is transferred to the finished product. There is no real beauty without character and like the clay that I use to make them; my pots are reflections of my character. As a human being, I am accepting of impression and each pot I make represents my personality, experiences and my dreams."- Josh Copus

Copus received his BFA degree from the University of North Carolina, Asheville. Josh currently works from his studio in North Carolina.

Shipping costs are the responsibility of the winning bidder, and MANNA FoodBank will not pay for any shipping or delivery of the items.  MANNA FoodBank will contact the winning bidders via email after October 17 and provide contact information so that shipping can be arranged.  The winning bidder is responsible for providing specific shipping instructions by October 31.  If the item has not been collected and a clear arrangement has not been made by that time, the item will be considered a donation back to MANNA FoodBank.  All items awarded are your property upon payment by credit card, which will be the card you placed on file at registration.  All sales are final, and there will be no exchanges or refunds for any reason.  MANNA FoodBank reserves the right to add or withdraw, without notice, items to and from the auction.  Please consult your financial advisor regarding tax-deductible rules for silent auction items.
