Item Description

Vintage 9'6" Pipeliner Bing, Shaped by Dick Brewer

Bing Copeland began surfing in 1949, at the age 13. He would frequent the Manhattan Beach pier along with his friend Greg Noll. Like Noll, he would emerge as one of the most important figures in surfing of that era. Bing was heavily influenced by his first visit to Hawaii, where he would learn to surf big waves under the tutelage of greats George Downing, Buzzy Trent and Peter Cole. Bing opened his first shop in the fall of ’59 and his boards soon became a staple on the Southern California surf scene. This boards a classic example of a Bing big wave design, shaped by no less a legend than Dick Brewer.

Donated by George and Kathy Beard
