Item Special Note
Confrontational Ceramics investigates the history of the use of clay as a tool for social commentary and expresses the global perspective of clay artists who employ caricature, parody, satire, obscenity, erotica and the grotesque to focus attention on the inequities of the human condition. It is based upon the show Confrontational Clay, which she curated in which twenty-five American artists were represented, touring ten museums within the United States. The accompanying catalogue illustrated some of the visually arresting aspects of this show, and demand for the catalogue suggested an expansion of the ideas into a book representing international artists as well.
Over 230 ceramic artists have been identified whose works are conceptually provocative, technically skilled, and artistically engaging.
The book is organized into four categories that constitute an organizing conceptual framework:
Gender & Sexuality Issues
Environment & Social Concerns
War & Politics
Popular Culture
**note the cover features work by artist Nuala Creed, also a contributor to this auction!**
