The Alexander Technique is a movement education practice that is designed to prevent injury, improve physical coordination, restore the natural freedom and expression of the body, facilitate learning, and stimulate the imagination. In lessons, hands-on-work and gentle verbal instructions are given to create new pathways for movement.
Our movement patterns are often led by unconscious physical and mental habits that constrict our full movement potential and freedom. These small habits often lead to unnecessary chronic pain and injury. The Alexander Technique offers a clear and direct process for replacing our habitual tensions with adaptive, fluid responses. As we begin to understand how to eliminate this unnecessary muscular effort and tension, an enjoyable freedom can arise in our movements. The Alexander Technique helps us to gain awareness and develop more pathways and possibilities in the ways we respond to life.
