Item Description

The production of black pottery can be traced back to over 4000 years ago. Because of its complicated workmanship, exquisite design and difficult firing technique, historians call black pottery a treasure of primitive culture. Black pottery is produced using a smooth clay which is skillfully hand shaped into graceful pieces of art. This pottery goes through a series of manual semi-finishing, drying, polishing, carving, and lastly, a unique method of sintering. The sheen of the black pottery is acquired by the constant rubbing of the semi-dry surface. There are no glazes or sealers applied. Black Pottery remains in a natural state and is recommended for decoration only.

Approximately 7 inches tall by 7 inches in diameter. Handcrafted in China.
