Item Description
Explore the astounding Cuyahoga River Valley Gorge in Cuyahoga Falls in kayaks with volunteer, Gary Whidden, and kayaking friends. This is a flat water paddle into a section of the Valley Gorge that has been restricted for many years. We will view the high walls of the gorge, with their colorful geology and lush vegetation, and walk on massive stone structures that are 165 years old. We will see and walk parts of the Grand Promenade which was part of a tourist attraction that drew 10,000 people a day in the 1880’s. It’s the perfect spot to relax, enjoy nature and imagine how a free flowing river could restore this area to it's past.
Item Special Note
This trip is limited to 2 people ages 16 and up. The trip will be about 3 hours. The trip will be on a weekend during May or June of 2011 at a mutually agreed upon time. Kayaks and all equipment will be provided. No previous kayaking experience needed but must be able to swim and walk on rough, slippery terrain. Participants should be able to help launch kayaks.
