Item Description
Beautiful photo book by Italian art photographer Gerardo Leccese.
(softcover edition - also available in hardcover)
"The city of Venezia stretches across 117 small islands. The waterways have always been the most common route of transport. The gondola with its characteristic maneuverability and speed, has been the most suitable to ferry people. It's the product of a complex system of contributions from very different trades. It's comprised of the board, the remo (oar), the forcola (oarlock) - all made of wood, the felze (prow), the ferro (iron bow), the pillows, the carved wood, the gilded ornamentation and painted decoration, the brass horses, the cushioned seating for the passengers and finally, the hat, clothes and shoes worn by the gondolier. I would like to thank all the trade masters and artists that have shared their time and information to make this book possible. Grazie."
Gerardo Leccese was born and raised in Rapone, Italy, and immigrated to New York city when he was 17. He studied art at the Istituto d'Arte in Italy, F.I.T. in New York City, and The Maryland Institute of Art in Baltimore. He lives in Charleston, South Carolina and travels widely as a photographer and artist. Winner of several awards, his work has been shown in many art shows.
