About the artist:
One is immediately delighted by the vibrant colors and bold graphic lines that explore both the human condition and the monsters of our imagination. At first we laugh at his host of characters, but with a second reading we respond to their expressions with great empathy. We have seen these faces before.... staring out of a milling crowd on the subway platform; during exchanged glances with passing shadows in the night; or perhaps out of the corner of our eye in our own hallway mirror..
Ed Heck is a native New Yorker and his career is as paradoxical as the canvas landscapes he populates with monsters and misfits. After graduating from the School of the Visual Arts in New York, he went on to work as a scientific illustrator at the American Museum of Natural History. There among the bones and artifacts he created many of the graphics that would populate the fossil exhibits. His illustrations are often published in the prestigious magazine Scientific American. Other clients include the BBC and The Disney Company.
