Item Description
Make art with Mike Duffy! Mike is donating a 1 1/2 hour general art class in drawing and or watercolor painting for a family or small group (6 maximum). He'll provide the art supplies; you provide the location.
CBC campers know what a treat this is! Mike's creativity and knowledge have inspired and unleashed many a young artist, at camp and in classes he teaches during the rest of the year.
A bit about Mike:
Mike Duffy has been doing art since he was in 2nd grade drawing cartoons and comic strips inspired by Mad Magazine. He was the the "School Artist" until he went off to Kutztown University to study graphic arts and communication design – there he was "one of the crowd" of many artists. After graduating, Mike worked as an illustrator and ad designer for a decade or so before discovering what fun it was to teach art. It happened quite by chance when a friend needed to back out of teaching an afterschool program – Mike taught a comic book class and became hooked on the experience.
The Doylestown Art Center, which he eventually took over and ran, became his base for another decade. He expanded to teaching general art for kids ages 6 - 18. In 1998, he opened the Painted Porcupine Art Center in Bar Harbor to teach art to kids and adults on MDI. The next year, He joined the Camp Beech Cliff summer staff where he has inspired hundreds of young artists.
Mike loves to push the envelope with kids – challenging them with technically skilled projects, encouraging creativity ("Of course the sky can be purple!"), and introducing topics such as art history, the color wheel, and special brush techniques. He gets a great feeling of happiness and satisfaction working with kids over the years and seeing how their interests develop.
Item Special Note
This is a private class limited to 6 participants.
Winning bidder to provide a suitable space on MDI for the class (at your home or other location). Date and place to be mutually agreed upon by both parties.
