Item Description
Send your young adult (freshmen in high school to rising college sophomores) to Grab the Torch's Philanthropy and Leadership Camp. This five-day camp has been developed to provide an in-depth educational experience into the business and commitment of the non-profit, foundation, cause-related marketing and global-greater-good professional. A vital component of their mission is to present 'how it’s done and why they’re doing it.’ The students hear the life experience and journey of each speaker into the non-profit world.
Camp details: July 10 - 16, 2011. Camp will be held at the West Monitor Barn in Richmond, VT. Campers arrive the afternoon of Sunday July 10th and depart the afternoon of the July 16th.
Speakers for the Vermont camp will include representatives from Google, Charity Navigator, City Year, Vermont Youth Conservation Corps alumni, Youth Service America, and NAIS.
Sessions include presentations by foundation leaders, development professionals, college admission representatives, street volunteers, grant writers, corporate marketing professionals, non-profit strategic planning professionals, and presidents of boards and foundations.
*Note: The philanthropy camp participant will need to fill out an essay-based application to complete the admission process. Campers will stay in the lean-tos!
"Dave Aldrich’s approach to cultivating the next generation by accelerating the thought process and preparing students for the passing of the torch is essential to maintain a core base of philanthropy for the future. Not often does an idea come across with such vision, passion and force like Grab the Torch. Forward thinking at its best." --Alan Hassenfeld, Philanthropist
Chairman, Executive Committee, Hasbro
Director, Committee Encouraging Corporate Philanthropy
"Dave Aldrich (Grab the Torch Founder and CEO) is on to something. Grab The Torch has a lofty mission: To teach the principles of philanthropy to the next generation – deliberately and with intention. His focus is on the adolescent who is moving through high school into college; his idea is to capture their attention and passion early so that they can be better prepared to continue the noble tradition of giving – a tradition that characterizes our very heritage. His Philanthropy Camp offers an incredible educational experience for students that are truly committed to make a difference. Hip hip for GTT; it’s a good thing." --James H. Carney, Chair/CEO, Carney, Sandoe & Associates, Boston.
