Artist Statement:

For each of us there's a place we've been, we're at, or we're looking for that is where we feel most relaxed, safe, and free. Whether that place is an empty beach, a dusky hillside, a seat beside the fire, or the still point within, we all look for it - and we'll all find it - under the same moon.

Bio:

I'm a Seattle-based mosaic artist and instructor working primarily in stained glass and unglazed porcelain for gallery, residential, commercial and public settings. In juxtaposing these unlike materials, and often combining them in multiple layers, I am striving to understand the infinite relationships between dimension, luminosity and opacity. I build up layers of glass to discover how color intensity builds and how light informs color as it reflects back through the glass from a mirror substrate. In a sense I'm refining light: beginning with a reflective surface, I cover it completely with hundreds, sometimes thousands, of precisely cut tesserae of varying opacities to harness that reflectivity into a focused glow at strategic points.
