Artist Statement:

I have been a stained glass artist for over 25 years, specializing in Tiffany-style lamps. I branched into mosaics about 6 years ago to take advantage of all my scrap glass. I enjoy working in glass because of the wide choice of color palette, glass types and textures. Magic happens when light is transmitted through or reflected off a stained glass art piece. I also enjoy the challenge of working in 3-D, and I add intricacy, flow and bright colors to my designs.

Koi fish is a favorite subject of mine. They are a breed of carp and are very colorful and graceful creatures. The Japanese associate koi with perseverance in adversity and strength of purpose. Because of its strength and determination to overcome obstacles, it stands for courage and the ability to attain high goals. The golden koi also symbolizes good fortune and prosperity.

This design is adapted from a Japanese tattoo art book by Jeremy Elder.
