Francois Auguste Hippolyte Peyrol, (1856-1929) was a son of one of France’s most celebrated artistic families. His father, Hippolyte Peyrol married painter, Juliette Bonheur. The senior Peyrol was a sculptor and set up his own foundry to control the quality of his work and and that of two of his generation’s best sculptors; siblings Rosa and Isidore Bonheur, related to Peyrol by his marriage to Juliette.
Hippolyte Peyrol, Sr. was a master caster and the Peyrol Foundry at 14 Rue de Crussol, Paris, produced outstanding bronze works from the 1850’s thru 1920. The foundry cast all of the works by both Isidore and Rosa and the older and younger Peyrols. The small PEYROL stamp appears on the bottom of the reclining bronze tiger sculpture we offer for your consideration.
