About Dedham Country Day Camp:

At DCD Camp we want to be subject of such lifelong summer memories.

Summer 2011 looks very exciting. As always, we have a record number of returning counselors. Many of our counselors were once campers at DCD and have strong connections to the summer experience here on campus.

Groups consist of children entering the same grade level in the fall. All groups are co-ed and include no more than 15  campers. Each group follows a structured schedule and attends various activities throughout the day.  All groups are assigned a classroom where the children meet each morning and store lunches, bathing suits, and extra clothing.

Daily Activities:

SWIMMING
The Camp utilizes its two modern swimming pools, which are ideal for young campers. One pool is a large, shallow pool, and the other is an L-shaped pool with a depth of three to eight feet. Full-day campers participate in an American Red Cross swimming lesson each morning and a free swim each afternoon. Half-day campers have one swim lesson per day, during which they learn swimming and water safety skills through games, songs, and free play.

All pool staff are certified in American Red Cross Swimming Instruction. and are experienced in teaching young children to swim and enjoy the water. The instructor-to-camper ratio during lessons is dependent upon the size of the camper group, but will not exceed 1:5.

SPORTS AND GAMES
Traditionally a favorite with the DCD campers, Sports and Games time takes place in the large Rand Gym or out on the playing fields. Traditional camp games (tag, frisbee, relays, capture the flag, etc) along with some basic beginning sports (wiffle ball, badmitton, soccer, kick ball) are all a part of Sports & Games time.

OUTDOOR EXPLORERS/NATURE
Trekking through the marsh, or setting up a campground area in the pine grove, outdoor explorers will learn some basic of survival in the elements! Learn to pitch a tent, use a compass, or just take in the wonder of nature. Activities, experiments, and games are all a part of this piece of the camp program.

WOODWORKING
Woodworking with kids? You bet! Campers are introduced to the the use of hand tools and will craft pieces to take home. In the past, birdhouses, name signs, planters, boats, and boxes have all been popular projects.

Campers entering Nursery and Pre-K  come to the wood shop for wood sculpture and painting.

ARTS AND CRAFTS
Tye-dye, painting, beading, and fun art experiments form the foundation of the arts and crafts program. Weekly themes inspire the projects produced in the arts/crafts room.

ARCHERY
A certified instructor teaches children entering First Grade and above the skills of archery. Aim, stance, and safety are the focus of this program.

COOKING (a favorite activity offered during "Happy Choice Time")
Campers are given the opportunity to learn how to measure, mix, and bake foods that match our theme weeks. Young chefs can get creative in the kitchen, often modifying recipes to suit their own personal taste. Samples are shared during cooking time, and often sent home as treats for the whole family to enjoy.

News:
We are also eager to tell you of an exciting change for the upcoming season. We will be reinstituting our 3.5 year-old program. There has been a growing interest in providing a half-day camp program for this age group. Our Pre-Kindergarten and Extended Day facility offers the perfect space for our youngest campers. The Huntington House is located adjacent to the swimming pools, has its own small playground, and is fully stocked with toys and supplies for our pre-school campers.

Please come by and say hello at one of our Open Houses. Or, contact Caroline Swan in the DCD Camp Office at 781-320-1832 to learn more about our camp programs or to schedule a tour.
