Chairy Barnum
BARNUM
1980
Barnum opened to rave reviews in the spring of 1980, not only for leading man Jim Dale but for his leading lady who burst upon the scene, Glenn Close. As P.T. Barnum’s long-suffering wife Chairy, Glenn received her first Tony Award nomination and was soon beckoned to Hollywood. Our bear perfectly captures the regal essence that garnered Glenn such well-deserved attention. Dressed in a turn-of-the-century style dress made from iridescent grey taffeta with crinoline and sequined trimmings, Chairy is a stunning partner to the circus impresario. A custom-made wig matches the one worn in the show, and there’s even a matching beauty mark on the side of her cheek. As Chairy sang in the show, “I like your style!” – and Chairy, so do we.
