Jeanie
HAIR
2009 Revival
Jeanie’s effervescent spirit carries her through a roller coaster life of unrequited love for Claude and unending love for the Tribe. She’s been called a symbolic bridge between sexuality and spirituality, between the pleasures of the flesh and the cultivation of the soul. Jeanie, who’s pregnant by some “speed freak” but dreams that it’s Claude’s baby, ultimately leads the invitation to the Be-In, enveloping the audience in exploration and awakening. In the 2009 Broadway revival, the West End transfer and currently on the national tour, Kacie Sheik embodies the sweet, smart, innocence of the role. Jeanie the bear mirrors the Kacie version of Jeanie the hippie down to the maternity padding. She wears a purple, hand-beaded dress with hand-painted hippie sari dress and a traditional tie-dyed T-shirt under an embroidered jacket. She’s adorned in a variety of jewelry, much of it made from beads from the show that Kacie collected on-stage and saved. Jeanie the Bear also wears a bracelet woven from the leather fringes of Berger’s vest and loin cloth. Let the sunshine in and let Jeanie the bear help you feel the love.
Broadway Bear designed by John Kristiansen New York Inc
with the assistance of Maria De Carmen (beading), Martha Forero (maternity padding), Erin Proud (skirt painting), Melissa Valencia, Scotty Wiggins and Gerard Kelly (wig)
