Item Description

Valere
LA BÊTE
2010 Revival

From his first appearance on stage and through his nearly 30-minute monologue, Valere proves that even a low-brow, egotistical street performer can command the attention every actor, director and writer craves. In 17th century France, Valere goes head-to-head with the far more academic Elomire for the favor of the princess, which ultimately results in serious changes within the royal theatrical troupe. Everything about Valere is outrageous, even his attire as recreated here with his first appearance at Broadway Bears. Valere bear wears grey wool mohair trousers adorned with ribbons over his red vertical-striped tights and cotton undergarments. His cotton shirt was created with lace donated from the actual shirt worn by Mark Rylance in the Broadway production. Valere is draped in a faux leather brown jacket with real wood button closures and a velvet ribbon sash and brass buckle. His long, unkempt hair is a mixture of faux and real human hair dyed to match the original wig, and he comes complete with Valere’s famous bucktoothed grin and his unforgettable “wind.”  Valere bear also comes with his black prop satchel under the topcoat, a real gold earring and faux leather boots distressed for an authentic look. As well as the costume, this bear comes with Valere’s “truth” cape, which became the curtain for his play within the play. This wonderfully detailed bear is enough to inspire anyone to speak in verse.
