Artist Statement
When we first began discussing the OC Can You Play project, I was extremely excited to be a part of this amazing adventure even from a technical standpoint. When I was asked if I would participate as one of the artists and paint a piano myself I felt honored to be included in such an innovative and monumental step in the Pacific Symphony’s community outreach activities. I began thinking about what “The Joy of Music” meant to me, and how I would apply that meaning visually to a piano. I went back and forth several times before realizing that the recurring theme in all of my designs was that I use music as a tool to relax, unwind and have fun. I chose the paisley for my piano because, like music, the pattern can portray many different moods and styles. I wanted people to see it and feel energetic, youthful and inspired to play.
