PRIVATE LIVES
1983 Revival
Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton, the legendary, glamorous, bigger-than-life and oft-married acting couple, returned to the stage in the 1983 Broadway revival of Noel Coward’s Private Lives. They played Amanda Prynne and Elyot Chase, a couple who had been married and divorced from each other and now find themselves sharing a balcony at a hotel in the South of France while they are both on their honeymoon with new spouses. Our Amanda bear is seen in her Act II bias-cut evening gown, fully beaded in shades of violet. The color not only reflects the couple’s re-kindled passion for each other but also matches the iconic eyes of Ms. Taylor, seen here as amethyst beads, which have their own fire and passion. Her jewels are top-of-the-line, with a white diamond bracelet, necklace, earrings and wedding ring. The violet satin T-strap shoes complete the 1930s ensemble and, for a contemporary touch, she is wearing Ms. Taylor’s new fragrance, “Violet Eyes.”
