Millie Dillmount
THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE
2002
It’s 1922 and Millie Dillmount is certainly looking chic, unique and quite adorable in this recreation of Sutton Foster’s costume from the musical’s opening number. Fresh off the train from Salina, Kansas, Millie arrives in New York City ready to raise her skirt, bob her hair and find herself a steno job working for a rich executive whom she plans to marry. Millie is decked out in her first New York outfit, painstakingly recreated from the original Broadway production with a geometric-patterned bodice and long scarf crafted from fine silk printed with three separate dyes and a hand-dyed goldenrod skirt to match. Her coordinating hat and shoes were built to the exact dimensions of the bear for a perfect fit and stylish look. No detail was overlooked down to the silk teddy and stockings she wears under the dress. Goodbye good goodie girl! Everything about this Millie is thoroughly modern.
