About Camp Avoda:

MISSION

Camp Avoda is committed to providing Jewish boys with a safe, vibrant, and nurturing summer environment where friendships are built to last a lifetime. We continue our more than 80-year tradition of fostering values of teamwork, leadership, self-confidence, and respect for one another based on shared experiences that value our Jewish culture and traditions.

CORE VALUES

Avoda brotherhood, leadership, spirit, and tradition are among the most distinctive and unique aspects of the Avoda experience. Avoda brotherhood embraces shared values and experiences which nurture the development of deep and lasting life-long friendship in uncomplicated ways in our all-boys camp environment. Avoda leadership provides all campers a secure footing on which to engage themselves and others to reach heights greater than previously thought. It allows them to rise above the average, to develop as leaders of and role models for others, and to pass those skills and perspectives to generations which follow. Avoda spirit touches in ways that animate, invigorate, and inspire the heart and soul of the Avoda experience. Avoda tradition allows the successes of proven programs, practices, honored rituals, and long-standing values to influence the development of each camper’s self-confidence and self-esteem. It is the energy and strength of these four principles which support the foundation for so many to return year-after-year serving fathers, sons, and grandsons since 1927.

Programs & Activities:

Sports

Camp Avoda offers instruction in a wide range of both team and individual sports and competes with other camps in basketball, softball, soccer, and tennis.  We also have an extensive intramural sports program known as League Competition.  Our approach to athletics is one of inclusion and participation, with the basic ideal of Avoda sportsmanship emphasized throughout the athletic program and camp life.  Everyone gets a chance to play at Avoda.  Additionally, campers are afforded enhanced levels of individualized instruction.

Team Sports

One of the greatest aspects of Avoda is the camaraderie that stems from its team sports. It’s one of the few opportunities in athletic competition where all Avodians can join forces and show their camp pride together against other camps in New England.

Each year, Avoda puts together a number of different teams (based on age) to compete against other camps throughout the summer. Team sports include softball, basketball, tennis, swimming and soccer.

There are a number of tournaments for each sport throughout the summer held at the different camps. Counselors who hold an expertise in a particular sport are the coaches and hold open tryouts each month for campers to have the chance to make the team. Once the team is selected, practices are held throughout the regular schedule of camp to prepare for each tournament.

For the past 20+ years, Avoda is the host to the Camp Avoda Basketball & Soccer Tournaments. 3 or 4 other camps travel to Avoda during the second month for a 1-day tournament filled with competition, cheering and by the way, an amazing barbeque courtesy of the Avoda kitchen!

Arts

Creativity is encouraged at Camp Avoda and there are many opportunities for artistic and personal expression.  Arts and crafts, wood working, photography, and video production are just four of the more popular programs at camp. These programs provide a great balance to the on-field sports that make up our program.
