Hosted By: Annette Bacola and Robert Cummings

Date: Tuesday, October 4, 2011

Join the following guest experts for an insightful discussion:

Tobias J. Moskowitz, Fama Family Professor of Finance, Chicago Booth, studies asset pricing, real estate markets, finance, and sports. He has explored topics as diverse as momentum in stock returns, local bias in investment portfolio choice, and the social effects of bank mergers. Prof. Moskowitz was recognized by the American Finance Association with its 2007 Fischer Black Prize, which honors the top finance scholar
under the age of 40. He is the co-author of the new bestseller SCORECASTING: The Hidden Influences Behind How Sports Are Played and Games Are Won, which digs into the behavioral dynamics of sports. He finds that many sports clichés are simply wrong.

Amir Sufi, Associate Professor of Finance, Chicago Booth, studies the broad areas of financial intermediation, corporate finance, and household finance. His current research focuses on the macroeconomic implications of the housing boom and collapse. His work has been widely quoted in the business media. His research has won numerous prizes, including the Brattle Prize for Distinguished Paper from the Journal of Finance and the inaugural Young Researcher Prize from the Review of Financial Studies.

Luigi Zingales is the Robert C. McCormack Professor of Entrepreneurship and Finance and the David G. Booth Faculty Fellow, Chicago Booth. Most recently, he has been involved in developing the best interventions to cope with the aftermath of the financial crisis. He also co-developed the Financial Trust Index, which is designed to monitor the level of trust that Americans have toward their financial system. His research has earned him the 2003 Bernácer Prize for the best young European financial economist, the 2002 Nasdaq award for best paper in capital formation, and a National Science Foundation Grant in economics. His book, Saving Capitalism from Capitalists, coauthored with Raghuram G. Rajan, has been acclaimed as “one of the most powerful defenses of the free market ever written.”

The discussion will be moderated by Steve Kaplan, Neubauer Family Professor of Entrepreneurship and Finance at Chicago Booth.
