Item Description
Three bedroom cottage beside the public library and town wharf in the historic village of Welshpool on Campobello Island, best known as the summer home of Franklin Delano Roosevelt.
The island is part of New Brunswick, but is just over the border from Lubec, Maine. The lower 1/3 of the island (about 2700 acres) is parkland, including FDRÂÂA?’s original cottage, a golf course and Herring Cove beach, which is wonderful for kids who like rock collecting/polishing.
The kayaking is fantastic; we have paddled alongside dolphins and minke whales in August when they are feeding in Head Harbor Passage.
It is a little over 5 hours from Ipswich, but there is a lot to do along the way if you want to take it slower.
Current availability is completely open for 2011. September can be the best time to be there if you donÂÂA?’t have to worry about the school year.
This cottage sleeps at least 6 (2 bedrooms with 2 double beds, one bedroom with 2 twin beds), plus an open living room area that can accommodate many sleeping bags.
There are many secret places and sites to visit on the island, and if you are the winner of this amazing week, Doug DeAngelis will fill you in on all of them!
Note:
- Kayaks are not included, but can be rented in nearby Lubec, ME.
- Mountain bikes are not included but are highly recommended.
- Sheets, towels and all necessary kitchen items are included.
- Grocery stores are nearby on either side of the border, and several dining options are in nearby Lubec and surrounding areas.
Item Special Note
Current availability is completely open for 2011. September can be the best time to be there if you donÂÂA?’t have to worry about the school year.
