Item Description
A beautiful painting that is so appropriate for this cause! "Sprouting Up" is an abstracted painting of seedlings sprouting from the soil, a painting about hope and new beginnings.
Lisa Koschwitz Salerno is a Connecticut-born artist whose works span the realm of painting, printmaking, collage, illustration, photography, and poetry. Salerno is most noted for her abstracts in oil featuring expressive and adventurous use of color and shape, and her representational explorations merging eastern and western imagery, idols, and culture. Lisa started painting at the age of ten as the only child in a series of workshops for adults. Her passion for art continued into adulthood she earned her Associate in Fine Arts degree from Manchester Community College and her Bachelor of Fine Arts in painting and art history from the University of Hartford's Hartford Art School, where she studied under New York painter Pat Lipsky.
Salerno was amongst a small group of artists who helped to transform the Parkville section of Hartford, CT from a blighted former manufacturing district into a flourishing arts community by setting up studio in newly converted factories and warehouses up and down Park Street and surrounding neighborhoods. In 2003, Salerno was awarded a VSC fellowship and selected for residency at the renowned Vermont Studio Center in Johnson, VT, where her work was critiqued and praised by world-famous painter Wolf Kahn and international art critic and poet John Yau. Her paintings have won many awards and honors in local and national competitions and have been featured in exhibitions across the State of Connecticut. Lisa's paintings are in numerous collections, including some recent acquisitions by her alma mater, Manchester Community College in Manchester, CT.
In 2010, after spending many years in the Hartford area, Salerno recently returned to her beloved Milford, CT, where she plans to draw inspiration from the shoreline, raise her young family, and continue to contribute her talents and energy into enhancing Milford's already vibrant arts community. She was selected a participating artist in the 2010 Milford Open Doors Art Exhibit and Auction sponsored by the Downtown Milford Business Association and has had her work on display at the Milford Center for the Arts and in the Firehouse Art Gallery.
In 2011, Lisa’s painting “flake” from her “paperdolls” series won first place in an art competition sponsored by The Art Guide, the leading visual arts information web site. She was awarded “Featured Artist” on TheArtGuide.com homepage and her painting was featured as their facebook profile picture.
