Carrara opened the first retail shoe store at 5945 W. North Avenue under the name "Montecatini Shoes" Montecatini is a resort town in Tuscany. The name was later changed in 1993 to "Carrara " when the business began to sell their own line of children's shoes.
There are many fine brands of children's shoes on the market, such as Geox, Ecco and Umi which are sold at Carrara Shoes. However, with the idea of creating something exclusive to the store, owner Renato Carrara travels semi-annually to factories in Italy. Working closely with designers, Renato selects the types of leathers, colors and soles that are used in each design.
Only a limited number of pairs are made of each style. Mixing the current trends for children's shoes in Italy at the moment with the requests made by customers for the type of shoes and colors they desire - a unique collection of shoes is created for each new season. The children's collection runs from first walkers to an adult size 40.
