Item Description
You are bidding on history! In 1979 -- the 50th anniversary of the founding of The Seeing Eye -- a 15-cent "Seeing For Me" stamp was issued. Collected here and preserved in a beautiful frame are two "First Day" covers (envelopes), each bearing the stamp.
The top cover features a large illustration of the stamp itself. Designed by illustrator Joseph Csatari, the stamp depicts a Seeing Eye graduate confidently walking with a German shepherd guide dog in harness. The top of the stamp reads "USA 15c", and across the bottom, "Seeing For Me".
The illustration in the bottom cover is a small reproduction of a placard bearing a picture of a German shepherd in harness. Across the top, it reads in black ink , "First Day Of Issue, June 15th, 1979, Morristown, N.J." Just above the shepherd, in red ink, it reads "SEEING EYE DOGS." And under the shepherd, also in red, is "SEEING FOR ME".
Each envelope is stamped "First Day of Issue" and cancelled at Morristown, N.J. on the first day the stamp was issued, June 15, 1979. The covers are mounted in a smart silver metal frame measuring approximately 11" x 7-3/4" and bordered in black enamel with silver trim.
A great gift for a stamp collector or a supporter of The Seeing Eye!
