Item Description

You are bidding on history! In 1979 -- the 50th anniversary of the founding of The Seeing Eye -- a 15-cent "Seeing For Me" stamp was issued. Collected here and preserved in a beautiful frame are two "First Day" covers (envelopes), each bearing the stamp.

The top cover features a large illustration of a German shepherd, and a smaller inset of a man in a brown suit being guided by a German shepherd. A careful observer will note that the Seeing Eye dog is on the wrong side -- the man's right! Across the top of the illustration reads, "SEEING EYE DOGS," and across the bottom, "First Day of Issue."

The illustration in the bottom cover is a cartoon drawing of a dog's head and shoulders. A hand is holding the harness. The dog has an eager, happy expression, as if to say: "Oh boy! Time to go again!"

Each envelope is stamped "First Day of Issue" and cancelled at Morristown, N.J. on the first day the stamp was issued, June 15, 1979. The covers are mounted in a  smart silver metal frame measuring approximately 11" x 7-3/4" and bordered in black enamel with silver trim.

A great gift for a stamp collector or a supporter of The Seeing Eye!
