Item Description
Barrio Grrrl! Is a delightfully charming coming-of-age pop musical, bursting with color and energy, written by Pulitzer Prize finalist and Tony Award nominee Quiara Alegría Hudes (In the Heights) and Grammy-winning music director for PBS’s new Electric Company Bill Sherman. Barrio Grrrl! is a funny and warmly truthful play that will make hearts sing.
Drawing strength from her music, her Latino culture, her family, and her extraordinary imagination, spunky nine-year-old Ana practically explodes off the stage, becoming her own hero in the face of incredible circumstances. With her mother serving overseas, Ana uses her imagination to come up with clever ways to entertain herself and her friends. Ana also has her own alter-ego superhero, Barrio Grrrl!, and her equally tenacious invisible sidekick, Amazing Voice, as she faces the hardest challenge of all: growing up. Now, Ana needs to decide what’s most important: being a busy superhero preserving justice in the barrio and protecting her neighborhood or being a girl who works little miracles in real life.
Great for both adults and kids 7 years and up, and see what happens to Barrio Grrr!l live on stage, April 16th, at the Skirball center.
