Item Special Note
Born in Murano, Italy, Mattia Salvadore comes from a family of glass artisans. At the age of nine, he had his first contact with glass and it sparked a passion that has yet to dim. salvadore went to law school, but after three years of study, he realized his passion was not for law, but for glass. In 2001, Salvadore moved back to Murano and began to work with his father, internationally acclaimed Davide salvadore. Immediatly Mattia and Davide began to collaborate on new works. Other Muranese masters took note and offered to teach their techniques to Mattia. He spent three years studying under internationally renowned artists. In 2004, Salvadore was accepted to study at Pilchuck Glass School. This piece belongs to the Gusci (shell) Series. The colouring was obtained by superimposing seven strata of colour upon one another, using the traditional Venetian technique, tociar piere (to pick by cane). Salvadore's style mixes the contemporary with ancient Muranese traditions.
