Item Description
Rayuela is Spanish for “hopscotch” and the title of the experimental novel by South American writer Julio Cortázar. It's also a superb NYC restaurant that offers Estilo Libre Latino (Freestyle Latino) cuisine, which respects yet redefines traditional Latin American and Spanish dishes, including staples such as ceviche and tapas. Here you'll find ingredients from more than a dozen countries, including Peru, Ecuador, Mexico, Cuba, Colombia and Spain. It's a world-table feast to delight the senses! Adjectives used in Zagat's to describe Rayuela are "fantastic, tantalizing electric, sleek, and jovial."
Located on the Lower East Side at 165 Allen Street, and featuring a live olive tree in the middle of the restaurant, Rayuela is owned by powerhouse trio Executive Chef Máximo Tejada, up-and-coming restaurateur Hector Sanz, and Paul Fernandez.
Try the Boquerones, Salmon Ahumado or Tamal Limeno (squid ink corn cake over collard green, shrimp, lobster and a rocotto pepper pisco sauce). Rayuela is open seven days a week for dinner; to make a reservation for your unique dining experience, call 212.253.8840.
