Item Description

The Charlestown Café Club will prepare a dinner for eight in the delightful garden of noted Horticulturalist, Michael Bowell. The dinner will feature the freshest local foods to quench your pallet and the most luscious of environments to stimulate conversation.

A feast for body and mind, the evening will commence with appetizers and drinks and a tour of Michael’s extensive gardens and greenhouses. Dinner will follow in the grand two-story Conservatory, which houses Michael’s extensive plant and animal collection. Exotic orchids, bromeliads, palms, aroids, ferns, begonias, birds and reptiles will frame this fabulous dining experience. Be sure to bring your camera!

The evening will be coordinated and the menu will be prepared and served by the volunteers of the Charlestown Café Club, several of whom are also local farmers. The menu will feature locally grown produce from Charlestown Farm, locally pasture raised meat from Broadwater Farm and other locally raised items from the Phoenixville Farmers' Market.

About the Donors:

Michael Bowell gaden designer and owner of Create A Scene will play host this wonderful event. http://www.createascene.com

The Charlestown Café Club will create the dinner. For many decades, Joanna Reed, a noted horticulturist and gardener hosted dinners and garden tours as donation to local non-profits and charities. Joanna would prepare and serve appetizers and cocktails and take the group of guests through her lovely country garden on Bodine Road in Charlestown Twp, just across the road from Create A Scene.

This became a much sought after auction item for many local and even regional charities and non-profits. In the autumn of 1998 Joanna Reed became ill and her neighbors Michael Bowell and Ellen Behrle, joined by friends and fellow Charlestown residents, offered to step in and prepare a dinner for the Charlestown Nature Center’s annual Auction fundraiser. That was in November 1999. The Charlestown Café Club has continued since then inspired by Joanna's spirit of generosity and hospitality.
