Item Description
Thetis
West Texas Windmill, August 2010
Magnolia Court, Granbury
"When moving to West Texas, we saw the windmills on the side of the road. The gyp water was used for the cattle, not for the humans."
Thetis was born and raised in rural Arkansas, where she graduated from high school at age 16 and married at 17. She later moved to Odessa, Texas, with her husband and daughter.
Item Special Note
Thetis is an artist in Memories in the Making®, the Alzheimer’s Association art program for people with dementia.
Painting with watercolors restores a way of being creative to people who have lost other avenues and brings the joy of self-expression to those who are losing the ability to communicate with words. The artists’ stories, told while painting, become part of the work, forming a unique portrait of that individual in that moment.
Introduced to North Central Texas Chapter in 2009, MIM has brought the joy of creative self expression to hundreds of residents of 30 long term care facilities in eight counties.
