Item Description

The Orange Peel Rose Collection is inspired by orange peel roses hand made in Colombia by women artisans. Discarded orange peel is collected from street juice vendors and thoroughly cleaned before undergoing a seven day sun-drying, shaping and dying process that results in a beautiful, wearable rose. Roses are combined with seeds, vegetable ivory, palm, ground coffee and other natural and recycled materials to create necklaces, bracelets, earrings, pins and much more. Roses are sometimes resined for a bit more shine (and to enhance resistance to wet conditions) or left in their natural dried state, still durable, and with the added benefit of retaining their natural aroma (jewelry + perfume!). The handcrafted nature of this item will produce minor differences in design and sizing. Subtle variations will occur from piece to piece, adding to its unique quality.

The 3 Rose Necklace was loosely inspired by orange peel roses hand made by women artisans in Colombia. Three roses are set on the side along with stands of beautifully polished vegetable ivory. Vegetable Ivory is a nut from a palm tree and an eco friendly alternative to ivory. Dress it up and wear to a fancy party or with your favorite t-shirt and jeans. You will find this piece in Lime green and natural to be so versatile it will be hard to find an outfit you can´t wear it with!

Care: Avoid wet conditions and extreme heat and humidity and you can enjoy for years to come.

Catalina Lemaitre founded Calamarie in 2009. Calamarie accessories are eco-chic, unique, wearable art for every occasion and every woman. Our products are hand-crafted, making each piece unique. They combine traditional art forms, techniques, and recycled materials with contemporary design, helping preserve tradition by putting it within reach of the modern woman. By becoming a Calamarie buyer you will help improve the lives of micro-entrepreneurs and dozens of artisans across Colombia and look fabulous while you are at it.

Calamarie is named in honor of the indigenous people, the Calamari, that lived in my hometown of Cartagena, Colombia prior to the Spanish conquest. Calamarie design pays homage to the culture, arts and crafts of this and the many other indigenous communities across Colombia, and the inventiveness and creativity of modern day artisans and seeks to introduce these to the world as functional, unique and wearable pieces of art.
