School History
| Pat Smith School of Dance was established in 1973 in the home as a part time business while raising a family. In 1987 the dance room was expanded and a floating wood floor added. The school has highly qualified degreed instructors teaching ballet, point, modern, jazz, tap, ballroom, yoga and combination classes. | Classes are kept small and personal. Students in uniform dance attire learn excellent technique, with a strong emphasis on classical ballet and jazz, dance class etiquette, and age appropriate choreography. |

Pat Smith Scott: Owner and director since 1973 family background in vaudeville and dance school ownership. Studied dance in New York and Arizona receiving a BA in Education from the Arizona State University. Thirty years teaching and choreographing for children and adults in New York and Arizona. Specialty is teaching combination classes of tap, ballet, tumbling and jazz that give students an all-around enjoyable introduction to dance. Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) since 2001. |
| Bekki Hillerby: Bekki Hillerby graduated from Slippery Rock University with a bachelor of arts in dance. She has studied jazz, tap, ballet, modern, partnering, pilates, improvisation, and hip-hop. She choreographed and performed for Slippery Rock Univ. Dance Theatre. Bekki was secretary of Sigma Rho Delta, the dance honorary, and the student director of the American College Dance Festival Assoc., hosted by SRU in 2004. She held an internship at the Broadway Dance Center in NYC where she studied with some of the best teachers in the country and gained much knowledge in performing, choreographing, and teaching dance. She was also a member of SRU s co-ed cheerleading team, where she competed nationally on ESPN and won 4th place in the National Partner Stunt Competition. In 2006 she produced and directed a professional dance concert entitled Dance Exposure including performances from professional dance companies from all over the Northeast. Bekki has been an freelance choreographer, performer, and dance educator throughout the United States and Europe. Bekki currently attends Arizona State University where she will receive her Masters of Fine Arts in Dance and is teaching undergraduate classes in Dance at ASU. | ![]() |

Erin Lovrien: began her formal dance training with Richmond Ballet in Virginia. In 2005, Erin decided to pursue her passion for dance at the University of Arizona, one of the top dance programs in the country. She has studied ballet, pointe, modern, and jazz extensively while enjoying hip-hop, tap, Broadway, and swing dancing on the side. Exploring her love for dancing, Erin has worked with companies such as Boston Ballet, American Ballet Theater, Alonzo King's LINES Ballet, and Ballet Austin during the summers, learning from some of the best. In 2009, Erin flew to Ghana, Africa, to study music and dance. She is currently a company member in CONDER/dance. With a dense background in many forms of dance, a joyful personality, and the enthusiasm that she brings to each class, you will no doubt enjoy taking from her! |
Mission:to introduce students (boys and girls) to the joy of dance offering a recreational curriculum as well as a progressive curriculum with a strong classical ballet and jazz foundation. |
Vision:to develop within the community and school a lifetime appreciation of dance and the associated arts and skills. |
Goals:are to offer small personal classes with an emphasis on excellent technique taught by superior instructors, keeping music, dance, and costuming age appropriate. |
