Item Description
Title: “Babette”
Medium: mixed media: glass and metal
Size: 8-1/2” square
Additional Information: Your attention is immediately drawn to the brilliant, jewel-toned colors in “Babette.” The interplay of line, color, and light Make this piece both elegant and playful. Created using unique processes developed and refined by this art duo, this piece incorporates copper and glass. The glass has been sandblasted and carved using hand-cut resist—giving it a special dimensionality not often found in pieces which hang on a wall. Oil paint, thinned to create translucency, has been applied to the reverse side of the glass.
About the Artists: Deana Blanchard and Chuck Young (creating as Selena Glass & Metal) have an incredible studio in the treed hills outside Asheville, North Carolina in Burnsville. They have been making art together since 1984. This dynamic couple has extensive experience creating stained and sandblasted glass. Their primary goal in their work is to convey the happiness they feel about the world by creating pieces that “tickle the eye.” Each of their pieces clearly demonstrates their exuberance toward life.
