Item Description
(Jeffrey Wilson donating to the winnng bidder the opportunity to be honorary General Manager for one day. Jeff will match his final bid up to $500.)
Born in Youngstown, Ohio to Martha and Bill Wilson, Jeff grew up in east Columbus and Whitehall. He began a colorful 30+ year career in Radio, Television, Live Entertainment and Pro Sports at age 15.
He graduated from Otterbein College in 1985 with a double major (with honors) in Speech Communication and Business Administration.
In a 25-year career with Clear Channel Communications, Jeff held positions including Air Personality on radio and television, Controller, Sales Manager, Director, and Vice President / General Manager. Hometowns included Columbus, Cincinnati, Milwaukee, Birmingham, Sacramento, San Diego, Monterey, and San Francisco.
Jeff returned to Columbus in 2003 to take the position of Vice President, General Manager of Radio One – Power 107.5, Magic 98.9, and Joy 106.3. Adopting a creed that says nothing about "Radio" and everything about "Doing What's Right", Radio One, Columbus consistently set new rating and revenue records over a six year period. In January 2010, Jeff took his passion for urban media north, taking over Radio One's four Cleveland radio stations, and in December of 2010 was promoted to Regional Vice President, overseeing all operations in Cleveland, Columbus and Cincinnati.
Under Jeff's leadership in 2006, Radio One was awarded the prestigious Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Award by the Ohio State University, and the Equal Opportunity Award of Excellence by the Columbus Urban League.
Jeff himself was awarded the 2010 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Award by the Ohio State University, and the 2010 Otterbein College Alumni Association Community Service Award.
In 2008, Jeff was elected to the Board of Directors for the Nationwide Children's Hospital Foundation. In addition, Jeff is an elected trustee for the King Arts Complex of Columbus, and Arnold Schwartzenegger's After School All Stars. He has done missionary work with Mother Teresa's "Missionaries of Charity" in Mexico, and maintains his membership at Glide Memorial Church in San Francisco (as featured in the Will Smith movie, "Pursuit of Happyness").
In March 2010, Jeff was invited to Capitol Hill to represent his community service efforts (and those of the entire broadcast industry) to members of Congress.
Jeff has run 62 marathons, rafted the entire length of the Grand Canyon four times (nearly 1,200 miles), climbed dozens of mountains, and flown a jet fighter with the Canadian Air Force (just to name a few CRAZY side-bars).
