Additional Information: While untitled, this rural scene may well depict life on an early Israeli kibbutz where the artist is known to have spent much of his youth. Subtle coloration and the juxtaposition of simple but bold shapes combine to suggest a harmonious and peaceful rural existence. (Note: The brass-colored metal frame is tarnished.)
About the Artist: Amram Ebgi was born in Morocco in 1939; however, he spent his formative years on an Israeli kibbutz, during which time he developed both his artistic talent and his lifelong passion for Jewish culture. In 1969, he was awarded a full scholarship to study in the US, first at the Brooklyn Museum, and subsequently at the Pratt Institute, where he expanded his mastery of various media to include highly skilled etchings such as this one. Ebgi’s work, while not always overtly religious, is best known for its sensitive and charming portrayals of the many aspects of Jewish life. His art currently hangs in numerous galleries, universities and museums worldwide, and has been recognized and gifted by many prominent private collectors, including the first President Bush and the late Elizabeth Taylor
