Item Description
The Wave Drum is delicately crafted by hand. This one of a kind drum represents the Earth and is considered to be a very sacred tool that can be used for celebration, unity, and healing according to the Anishinaabe People. It is believed that the drum carries the voices and heartbeat of All that Is. The frame and skin are prepared using prayer medicines of cedar, sage, and sweet grass.
To play the drum: Hold it horizontally at waist level with your hands on either side of the drum. Carefully and slightly tip the drum from side to side, as you move it gently in a circular motion. Concentrate on making a melodic wave sound.
To care for the drum: Play drum gently and keep out of extreme heat or cold, and high moisture or humidity. To remedy dry spots on the hide, rub a small amount of pure, natural Shea butter onto the skin and lacing.
About the artist: Kim has studied various styles of world drumming, drum circle, and expressive arts facilitation and native drumming with prominent Elders from the Anishinaabe community. She has been crafting native frame drums and ocean drums for over fifteen years. She facilitated drum circles in her community for various groups, especially children, with the hope that they will choose to make beautiful music instead of choosing the destructive path of substance abuse. Her work is done in memory of her daughter Patricia. Artist email: kimpatricia@rogers.co
