Born in 1959 in Brooklyn, NY, Amy Kaps was raised in suburban New Jersey. After studying psychology at Skidmore College and theater in Japan, she lived in New York City. Her first performances were in and around the East Village of the 80’s. Upon falling in love with an artist from Köln, Kaps spent more than a decade in Germany working as a tour guide, radio journalist, performance artist and singer in various bands including Beyond Good and Bad and The Thing of Venus. Upon returning to the States 16 years ago, she studied film making.
“A life-long pursuit in the arts to develop a form of communication is materialized in an amalgam of media. As an artist, I am not confined to one medium. At the core is free expression. Highly conceptual, often abstracted and surrealistic, my intention is to alter or affect perception as a provocation to incite thought and feeling.”
Curated by Shana Nys Dambrot
Item Special Note
This auction piece is a live performance in your home. The framed photograph is included but it is the performance that you are bidding on.
The actual performance duration is approximately 7 minutes and includes partial nudity. Installation of a very lightweight polyester sculpture that serves as a set-cum-costume remains for the evening. Requires a video projector, light and sound. In collaboration with Swinda Reichelt.
