Trained as a printmaker and book artist, Katie Murken coordinates site-specific installations that position her hand-made objects, books and drawings in relationship to diverse environments and audiences. In 2008, Murken was sponsored by a Mid-Atlantic Arts Foundation Creative Fellowship for a residency at the Millay Colony for the Arts. She was awarded an Independence Foundation Fellowship in 2008 to support the Public Author Project, an interactive project that explores the phenomenon of books and libraries in today’s digital climate.
Murken has shown her work locally and nationally, including exhibitions at the School of Fine Arts Gallery at Indiana University, Bloomington; The Print Center in Philadelphia; The Pittsburgh Center for the Arts; and the 23 Sandy Gallery in Portland, Oregon. Her work is included in the special collections of the Temple University Library in Philadelphia, PA and the J. Edgar Louise S. Monroe Library in New Orleans, LA.
