Courtesy of the artist and Garboushian Gallery
Utilizing source images from the Internet and photographs from his own life, art historical references and intuitive decision making when painting, Max Presneill reflects upon the relationship between fact and fiction. Within reconstructed histories and mythologized experiences, the forged connections that play between remembering and invention act as considerations of the nature of reality and identity.
Presneill works as both an artist and a curator (Torrance Art Museum) and has shown and curated worldwide. Recent exhibitions of his work include Polemically Small, curated by Edward Lucie Smith, Future Perfect, Beautiful Decay, Los Angeles (print version), Glossalalia and Other Stories, Garboushian Gallery, Beverly Hills, CA (solo), L_ove A_lways, Galerie Lara, Tokyo, Japan, Here and Now, ARTRA, Los Angeles, CA, Invisible Empire, Van Abbemuseum, Eindhoven, Netherlands, On The Shoulders of Davids, JAUS, Los Angeles, CA, Manifestations, Carl Berg Projects, West Hollywood, CA, Wish List, Freight & Volume, New York City (solo) and ANFSCD, La Estacion Arte Contemporaneo, Chihuahua, Mexico (solo)
Curated by Shana Nys Dambrot
