For more than 40 years, Channa Horwitz has been making drawings and paintings exploring the notation of motion and time. Sequences have been integral to the artist’s work since the late 1960s, when she created her seminal work, Sonakinatography, “sound, motion, notation.
“I experience freedom through the limitations and structure I place on my work. It would appear that limitation and structure are the opposite of freedom. I have found them to be synonymous with freedom, and the basis of freedom.
Horwitz is represented by François Ghebaly Gallery, who is planning both a solo exhibition and performance with her for Pacific Standard Time.
