George Herms was born in Woodland, California in 1935 and attended the University of California, Berkeley. Known as one of the founders of California assemblage and an influential figure of the Beat generation, George Herms premiered a new free-jazz opera this year at REDCAT as part of the ramp up to the Getty’s Pacific Standard Time initiative.
