This antebellum mansion is the only surviving plantation house in South Florida. Take a guided tour of the mansion and learn about the challenges of living on a 19th century Florida frontier sugar plantation - a way of life swept away by the Civil War. Wander fifteen acres of beautiful and extensive grounds, and picnic among the majestic live oaks or in a spacious, covered pavilion!
Gamble Plantation was home to Major Robert Gamble and headquarters of an extensive sugar plantation. It It is believed that Confederate Secretary of State, Judah P. Benjamin, took refuge here after the fall of the Confederacy, until his safe passage to England could be secured. In 1925, the house and 16 acres were saved by the United Daughters of the Confederacy and donated to the state.
