Item Description

Knoxville Zoo will introduce Chacoan peccaries to our collection this summer. The highest bidder wins the honor of naming the peccaries...All five of them!  We wouldn't dream of asking you to name these fascinating creatures without meeting them first so you will also have the honor of being the first guest to meet the zoo's newest residents. Just imagine your future trips to Knoxville Zoo when you will be able to visit your namesake peck of peccaries. The Chacoan peccary or Tagua (Catagonus wagneri) is an endangered species of peccary found in the dry shrub habitat or Chaco of Paraguay, Bolivia and Argentina. Only about 3,000 exist in the world making conservation work in zoos of critical importance. Bid genrously as these funds will help us defray the cost of bringing the peccories to Knoxville from their current home across the country in Los Angeles.
