Item Description
The Hmong tribe is scattered throughout many south east Asian countries including Laos, Thailand and Vietnam.
According to Hmong culture the colorfully embellished baby hat is decorated to keep the "evil eye" from taking the baby's spirit. Usually hand made by the baby's mother, these hats will hopefully disguise the babies to make them look like little flowers from above or from a distance.
Purchased by the donor in a Hmong village in Vietnam in 2003, this hat has exquisite detail with 10 small red pompons on the top of the hat and many black and white beaded tassels with red threads scattered around the crown. It is embellished with silver bead work; a 10 cent coin with two small silver beads is sewn on the black fabric of the hat. Primarily black, red and white colors are seen throughout the hat. The black head piece is fully lined with a machine sewn red, white and black striped 1/2" trim around the bottom of the hat. The chin strap consists of small black and white beads
This Hmong baby hat is truly a collector's dream!
Size: up to six months old. measures 17" diameter.
