Item Description

Host a special 2-hour private concert with 23-year old New York Pianist/Composer Julian Waterfall Pollack. Julian has the jazz community abuzz with his mature, technically ferocious, and dynamic piano playing. A classically trained pianist, Pollack's singular blend of music combines his love for today's popular music styles with a respect for the classical tradition. Of his just-released second album, Infinite Playground (Junebeat Records, 2010), San Francisco Chronicle music critic David Wiegand writes that it "provides ample evidence that Pollack is a ferociously assured and creatively dazzling pianist, composer and arranger...You often hear young people who are really, really talented; what you don't hear--that I hear in Julian's music--is maturity and soul and a lot of thoughtfulness." Featured on Marian McPartland's renowned NPR show, Piano Jazz, at the young age of 18, Pollack has performed numerous times at the Blue Note in New York under his own name, opening for such artists as Chick Corea and Gary Burton. In July of 2010, Pollack was featured on the front page of the Chronicle's arts section, Ovation, along with a 3-page spread. He also has performed and or recorded with Joshua Redman, Nicholas Payton, Miguel Zenon, Eric Harland, George Garzone, and Ari Hoenig. Pollack has performed at prestigious venues such as the Village Vanguard, Dizzy's Club Coca-Cola, The Jazz Gallery, Small's Jazz Club, Yoshi's, Lincoln Center, The Kennedy Center, and international festivals including Montreux, Umbria, Salt Lake City, and Monterey. Currently Pollack is pursuing a Master's Degree in composition at New York University while serving as an adjunct professor of piano studies and Artistic Director of the Jazz Series at the 2011 Mendocino Music Festival.
