Item Description
The Historical Buddha, Sakayumi, is named for the founder Buddhism, who was known as âThe Sage of the Sakyasâ. The Buddha is the embodiment of compassion who, having achieved the highest evolutionary perfection, turns suffering into happiness for all living beings. The goal of Buddhist teaching is to attain a release from existence, which in turn leads to the spiritual state of Nirvana, the Buddhist heaven. Sculptures and paintings of the Historical Buddha date from thousands of years ago to the present day. The serene expression of the Buddha in this work of art is sure to inspire a sense of peace. This antique bronze gilt statue of the head of Shakyamuni Buddha is a classic representation, with its finely arched eyebrows and half-closed eyes, gently smiling mouth, and very long earlobes. This latter is attributed to his earlier life as a prince, weighed down by material possession, but has since come to symbolize wisdom. The statue is 10 inches high and weighs about 20 lbs.
