Item Description

The original painting was inspired by the jungle scenes of Henri Rousseau, the French "naive" painter. Sev's painting fairly brims with delightful creatures peeking out through the lush foliage of the jungle. A captivating, fanciful motif, Jungle Buddies has been reproduced as a children's umbrella to raise funds for the World Wildlife Foundation. It has also been printed onto fabric, women's accessories, and a puzzlel! The artist describes her philosophy: "I paint because I love creating images of the happier side of life. I am drawn to exuberant colors and details. My style is often called Naive, or Modern Primitive, but I prefer to use the term "self-taught." This is the only serigraph Sev Ickes has made from an original painting. The master printer, Stuart Burton, is from San Diego. There are 19 hand cut stencils involved in creating the serigraph, giving the richness of detail and clearly defined color to the work. The print measures 30" X 22" and is printed on Rives BFK FRANCE paper. The edition is limited to 250 copies and 5 artist's proofs. This Prize is #234 of the edition, and of course is signed by the artist. Only 16 more serigraphs of "Jungle Buddies" will be produced; as the edition comes to an end, the work appreciates in value. A Certificate of Authenticity is enclosed with a copy of the artist's bio.
