The Avett Brothers formed in 2001 in Charlotte when Concord natives Scott and Seth Avett joined forces with standup bass player Bob Crawford. Known for their rowdy, infectious stage shows, they've created their own subgenre affectionately called "punkgrass". Father in-law of Scott Avett -- REALTOR Lewis Grubbs -- calls it bluegrass on steroids!
Whatever it is called, they've gained a huge following both locally and across the country. They've opened for the Dave Matthews Band and, on their own, filled a 7,000-seat venue in Cary. They also sold-out two nights at the Crystal Ballroom in Portland, Oregon and performed back-to-back sellouts at New Yorks's Fillmore East.
